KAJUKENBO
Kajukenbo is a dynamic hybrid martial art originating from Hawaii. Established in the late 1940s and officially founded in 1947 at the Palama Settlement on Oahu, Kajukenbo integrates striking, kicking, throwing, takedowns, joint locks, and weapon disarmament techniques. Recognized and practiced worldwide, Kajukenbo sets itself apart from many traditional martial arts by encouraging students to develop their own personal expression of the art, once they have mastered its core techniques.
The name Kajukenbo is a testament to the diverse origins of its techniques:
-
KA represents Japanese and Korean karate (Tang Soo Do).
-
JU stands for Japanese judo and jujutsu.
-
KEN comes from kenpo and the Japanese word for "fist."
-
BO is derived from Western boxing and Chinese boxing (Chuan Fa).
Designed with self-defense in mind, Kajukenbo embodies the philosophy that "through this fist style, one gains long life and happiness."
